Sponsor A Boxer!
One of the ways you can truly make a difference in the life of a needy Boxer is to sponsor it through medical treatment, pay for its boarding, food, obedience training, or anything else it might require while awaiting placement in its forever home.
Of course, Boxer Luv Rescue welcomes donations of any amount. However, we often have requests from people who want to do more. Below, you'll find examples of the different costs and care most commonly needed to rehabilitate a Boxer who's been living on the streets as a stray, comes from a shelter or was neglected or abused by its previous owner.
Vet Care - $200 Veterinarian care given to all Boxers that are strays or enter Boxer Luv's program from a shelter. All shots a rescue Boxer requires Neuter or spay surgery Check (and treatment if needed) for intestinal worms Heartworm test; and heartworm preventative Veterinarian exam
Valley Fever Treatment - $1700 (Yearly Estimate) Dogs seriously debilitated with Valley Fever have spent up to 6 months in our rescue just recovering from serious complications such as joint problems, lung problems, seizures, and nutritional deficiencies. Many have to be spoon-fed for months, as lack of appetite is a hallmark of the disease as well as a side effect from the required medicine. The good news is that most recover from this disease, but then a family willing to carefully monitor the disease in the Boxer must be found. This can take up to a year of foster care. Many times treatment must continue up to 18 months and beyond.
Tick Fever - $600 (Yearly Estimate) On the rise throughout Arizona, 1/3 of our rescued Boxers have tested positive for tick fever. Transmitted by the brown dog tick; organisms enter the dog's blood system and wreck havoc in the blood cells and immune system. Except for severe bleeding episodes that may occur after surgery the symptoms of this intracellular activity are likely to be subtle or unapparent. As the disease progresses, the organisms will multiply within the body and over a period of years slowly begin their treacherous course of debilitating multiple organ systems.
Boarding charges for one month - $250 Sometimes, Boxer Luv Rescue must turn away dogs due to lack of room in foster homes and no funds to pay for boarding. By sponsoring a needy Boxer, you'll allow us to take in a dog that might otherwise be euthanized, continue to live on the streets or worse.
Obedience work for rescue dogs - $20 - $50 One of the main reasons Boxers end up in rescue is because of behavior issues that can easily be solved with obedience training. To make a dog more adoptable and ensure success in its new home, Boxer Luv Rescue often works with a trainer to solve any problems that may be preventing the dog from finding a permanent home.
Monthly donations Occasionally, we have people who can't give a large amount, but who truly want to make an impact in the life of a rescue Boxer. Many of these people donate each month in increments of $20, $100 or more.
